Steve Got What You Need

STEVE MOTHERFUCKER

Bonjour Montreal

I still don't know how working on tracks in my bedroom became an invitation to Montreal in a matter of months, but I can't complain. I didn't even know who Turbo were (seriously) until I saw a new DMX Krew 12'' - the wicked Bass Drop - on his site and decided to shoot over a handful of hopelessly unfashionable sub-Aphex ambient jams in the off chance that they might take notice. It turned out to be pretty lucky for me that SAW Volume 1 is one of TVP's favourite albums. If that sounds like I'm trying to sound disassociated and ''far-out'', I apologize - as a fan of weird shit like Rephlex and SNES soundtracks, that a label with Chromeo and Boys Noize in its ranks should even be vaguely amused by my oeuvre seems pretty surreal, but then again I suppose that's testament to Turbo's scope.

Several phone calls and an incredulously camp Tiga remix later, I'm here enjoying the culture of poutine and bad French language pop music, which is even better than it sounds. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be attempting to master my tracks, remix other peoples' and even fit in a gig, while beaming the Turbo experience across the interweb via this blog. It's already been pretty eventful - the Dove himself obliterating Osheaga and my first encounters with Canadian cuisine were particularly memorable - and I promise this won't descend into a comparison of mono-synths or list of obscure acid records. Enjoy...
