Here’s a teaser from Sei A’s forthcoming album. It’s hard to pick a favourite, all these tracks have been getting lots of play from me and the whole Turbo crew.
‘Lazers’ is a dark, mounting stormer, whatever that means…it just builds and builds and then all comes together with (surprise) a clap. ‘Paraphaze’ is like a two-step Mathew Jonson vibe… and I don’t throw down Mr. Jonson’s name lightly… he’s the best. The Incredible Hulkkonen is also back with an excellent remix for ‘Rebel…’ but you’ll have to wait until the LP drops to hear the original version. Sorry. Digital-exclusive ‘Crystal Tokyo’ is probably the housiest thing we’ve put out all year… so house dweebs rejoice… I’m sure it’ll shift the most units for us on the ‘Port.
Bit of background on Sei A…
When Tiga first sent me the album Editing Shadows after finding it randomly on Beatport, I didn’t really ‘get it’ on first listen. This is probably because I just scanned it on laptop speakers trying to detect hit-factor using my usually infallible A&R brainpan. Upon repeat listens, I totally fell in love with it, and thatis a very important sign, one worthy of all the italics I can muster.
It’s not surprising that the album earned him the respect and support of a wide range of industry big shots like DJ Hell, Laurent Garnier, Ben Watt, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela and Tiga. That cross-section speaks to the scope of his music: a sound filled with rich textures, moody atmospheres, subtle psychedelia and haunting vocals, characterized by an instinctive gift for melody and a sincere romantic flair. This isn’t bullshit PR speak…this is the unvarnished, italicized truth.
Check out his recent remixes of Jori Hulkkonen, Matt Walsh and Tiga… all great.
The new album is slated for release on Turbo in late 2010.
