Ushering in a new era for Tiga’s Turbo Recordings, New Jack Techno showcases the label’s next generation of producers, signalling a bold new direction for the influential Canadian imprint. Featuring 10 exclusive tracks, this compilation offers a glimpse of the year ahead while remaining faithful to the veteran label’s underground techno roots.
This new core of roster artists – which includes emerging Toronto talents Gingy & Bordello, Nautiluss and Milano, Hotflush associate Locked Groove, London newcomer J Tijn, rising Scottish stars Clouds and Sei A, and UK super-producer Duke Dumont – strikes a perfect balance between modern bass-influenced dance music and Turbo’s original 90s techno spirit, courtesy of the A&R Machine that brought you such established stars as Proxy, Gesaffelstein, and Azari & III. The comp is rounded out by a killer track from Swedish techno master Tomas Andersson, thereby fulfilling the label’s long-standing “experienced Scandi-man” requirement, historically filled by Jori Hulkkonen or some combination of Dahlbäcks.
Whatever you thought you thought about Turbo is now irrelevant. New Jack Techno is a sign of the future, portending the great things to come as the label’s new generation of talent finds its audience.
